Privacy Policy
Effective 10 September 2026 · Last updated 10 September 2026We built Brainling to help teachers, and we take your trust seriously. This page explains — in plain language — what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
Brainling ("Brainling", "we", "us", or "our") is a daily-quiz app for teachers, available at getbrainling.com. Teachers post a short daily quiz and each student answers on their own private link and grows a pet called Pip. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Brainling is an independent service based in Malaysia. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at getbrainling@gmail.com.
2. Yes — we collect personal data
We want to be upfront: using Brainling means we collect and process personal data, both about the teachers who sign up and about the students whose quiz records teachers create. This policy describes exactly what and why.
3. Who uses Brainling, and a note on students
Brainling is designed for teachers. Teachers create an account and use Brainling to run a daily quiz — writing questions, publishing them to their class, and tracking each child's answers and their pet's growth.
Students do not create accounts or log in. Each student answers through an unguessable private link rather than a username or password. Teachers enter limited student information (such as a first name and class) to manage their own classroom. We rely on the teacher — and their school, where applicable — to have the appropriate authority and any consent required under local law before adding student details. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children. If you believe a child's information has been added without proper authority, contact us at getbrainling@gmail.com and we will remove it.
4. Information we collect
- Teacher account information — your email address, name, country, and a securely stored password (managed by our authentication provider). If you contact us or submit feedback, we keep what you send.
- Payment information — when you subscribe to Brainling Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We store a record of your subscription and payments (such as your Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, plan, and transaction history) so we can manage your access.
- Student records entered by teachers — first names, class/group names, and each student's private access link. This information is entered and controlled by the teacher.
- Quiz activity — the daily questions a teacher writes, the answers each student submits, their results, points and XP, streaks, and their pet's name and growth stage.
- Quiz responses on our website — if you take a quiz on our marketing site, we collect your answers, the result, and (if you arrived from a marketing link) attribution details such as the campaign source.
- Usage — general activity within the app, so it works and we can improve it.
- Analytics and device data — like most websites, we use analytics tools that collect information such as your device type, browser, pages visited, and approximate location (from your IP address). See section 7.
5. How we use your information
We use the information above to: provide and operate the app; create and manage your account; process payments, subscriptions, and renewals; send you service-related emails (such as sign-in, receipts, and password resets); respond to your feedback and support requests; understand and improve how Brainling is used; and keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
6. When we share information, and with whom
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Brainling, and only as needed:
- Stripe — payment and subscription processing.
- Supabase — our database, user authentication, and secure storage of app data.
- Netlify — hosting of our website and app.
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager — website and product analytics.
- Brevo — sending account and transactional emails (such as sign-in and receipts).
Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Brainling, our users, or others.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies, including through Google Analytics / Tag Manager, to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the app is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's opt-out tools. Blocking some cookies may affect how the app works.
8. How long we keep information
We keep your account and its data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account or ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our live systems within a reasonable period. Copies may remain in secure backups for a limited time before they are overwritten, and we may retain limited records where the law requires (for example, payment records for tax purposes).
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; delete your data; receive a copy of your data; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent for analytics. To exercise any of these, email getbrainling@gmail.com and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Teachers can view, edit, and delete the student records they created directly within the app at any time.
10. How to delete your account and data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time using the "Delete My Account" option in your account settings. When you do, we delete your teacher account and the student records associated with it from our live systems, and we cancel any active subscription. Residual copies in backups are overwritten on a rolling basis. If you'd prefer, you can also email us at getbrainling@gmail.com to request deletion.
11. How we protect your information
We take security seriously. We enforce database-level access controls so users can only reach their own data, encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict administrative access, and require two-factor authentication on our own accounts. No system is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
12. International data transfers
We are based in Malaysia, and our service providers (such as Stripe, Supabase, Netlify, and Google) may process data on servers located in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where we transfer data internationally, we rely on our providers' safeguards for such transfers.
13. Children's privacy
Brainling is intended for use by teachers, not children. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Teachers enter limited student information to operate their classroom and are responsible for ensuring they have the authority and any consent required by their school or local law. If you believe we hold information about a child that should not be there, contact getbrainling@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of Brainling after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
